How do I get Help?
ALL help requests (PC and Macintosh) should go directly to the
Help Desk e-mail address for triaging. The Help Desk e-mail address
is in the Global address book listed alphabetically under "H",
or you can click helpdesk@psg.ucsf.edu.
Help requests are assigned according to the person on the computer
support team who is most skilled in the area in which you need help,
as well as general availability of support staff. PLEASE DO NOT
CC: ANYONE ON THE COMPUTER SUPPORT STAFF WHEN SUBMITTING A HELP
REQUEST.
If your e-mail is not working, please call the Help Desk phone
line at 514-8122.
How do I purchase hardware or software?
Purchasing and installation of both hardware and software at PSG
is handled by the Help Desk. The procedure is as follows: First
contact the Help Desk to get a recommendation. Someone on the computer
support staff will then give you the necessary information you need
regarding make, model, version, price, etc. Please talk to someone
at the Help Desk, as well as get approval from your supervisor or
project director, BEFORE placing your order. In addition, please
use the official web-based PSG Computer
Order Form.
Who installs software?
As mentioned above, the computer support staff at PSG performs
ALL software installations on both Mac and PC. This includes
software downloaded from the internet. Users should not install
any software!
How do I reserve a LCD Projection Panel?
We have TWO projection panels, an Epson and a Boxlight, reservable
in advance, and ONE PC laptop that can be reserved along with
a projection panel. Reservations are necessary in advance to ensure
that we have a projector and/or laptop available for you, and to
ensure that we have staff available to set up the equipment. Because
of these constraints, we strongly discourage last-minute requests
as we may be unable to accommodate you. Reservations are on a first-come,
first-served basis. Please fill out the Projector
Request Form to request a reservation. Please allow at least
15 minutes prior to your presentation/meeting for setup of the projection
equipment. This means making sure to reserve the room at least 15
minutes in advance of the start of your meeting/presentation.
Who moves computers?
Computers should only be moved within PSG and at Epi by the computer
support staff. This is to ensure that the inventory is kept current
and also to prevent damage to the computers themselves.
